I own a l949 plymouth coupe original 218 6 cylinder still in vehicle. I was told the other day that I should be adding lead to my auto gas. Supposedly the engine as it begins to wear out starts to pit the pistons thus adding lead to my gas would prevent engine wear.
I’ve had the car since l973 never had any engin trouble -not even on long hot weather 500 mile one way trips. So is it a good idea to add lead to my gas?
Hi there
Yes, you should be using a lead additive with each tank of gasoline. The lead acts as a lubricant for the top end of the engine. You can buy lead additives at your local auto parts store.
