2002 Dodge Grand Caravan, location of thermostat
« on: December 06, 2006, 10:54:14 PM »
3.3L V6, automatic transmission, 71K+ miles.  Here in the Dallas, TX area outside temperatures have been cool/cold.  When driving the van on the highways, I noticed the heater will not heat very well, and the water temperature gauge on the dash is all the way down on C  (cool).  When I get home and let the engine idle in the driveway, the gauge starts to move up and the heater begins to warm up.  I think I need to replace the engine thermostat, but do not know where it is located on the engine.  Do you know the location?  I know I will need to purchase the thermostat part along with a gasket and lubricant.  Thanks !

I cant remember if they changed it with the newer model engine, what year is yours?  You should be able to find it if you follow the upper radiator hose over to where it connects to the engine. Look for the dome shaped piece of metal held on with 2 or 3 bolts.

The year is 2002.  The upper hose connects to the engine, there are two bolts.   Is the thermostat hidden inside that connection of the hose to the engine?

Yep, thats it. Just pay attention to which way you pull the old one out, and clean the surfaces of the engine and the t-stat housing, then put it back together.
